BEAUTY: catastrophe cosmetics facemask.

I thought today would be a write off.

I slept in way later than I had intended – this has been happening to me a lot lately, and I think it’s because I’m not eating properly… but more on that some other time.  The point is, by the time I rolled out of bed I already felt like I had wasted a whole day.  Part of me wanted to just go back to sleep so I wouldn’t have to deal with life.

But NO, not today!  I dragged my ass into the shower and I proceeded to give myself a stern talking to in the mirror.
“This is not who you are anymore,” I told my reflection, “you are not wasting any more days!  Hustle, girl, hustle!”
For some reason the word hustle really gets me going.  I follow a lot of cool people on instagram, and they’re always posting about the hustle.  Up until recently I wasn’t doing a whole lot of hustling, and quite frankly I was feeling a little left out.  But now… school’s in full swing, I’m working on weekends, I’m trying to hit the gym, and of course I have a very important blog to run… the hustle is real, my friends.

Don’t worry, I won’t start using the hashtag on instagram.  As much as I respect the idea, I think the actual thing is a little overdone.

Anyway, the point is, I kicked my ass into gear and got a bunch of stuff done.  And, okay, none of it was school related… but that’s what my day off tomorrow is for!  Right?

Once I finished being productive for the day I figured it was time to reward myself.  I currently have two missions in life, and those are

  1. bring down the ridiculous amount of redness in my skin (no, it’s not rosacea, but there is something wrong with me… I’ve changed up my diet and my skincare routine to figure it out, but that’s another tale for another time); and
  2. treat myself in ways that don’t involve food (especially barbeque chips and donuts,, which have somehow become my two biggest vices)

And so, the logical way to end my night was… a face mask!

definitely looks like something I want to rub on my face.

In my quest for the ultimate soothing face products I naturally turned to Lush.  What can I say?  I’m basic as hell.  Anyway, in addition to boring things like cleanser, I also felt like it was necessary to get a face mask.  The lady who worked there recommended I try Catastrophe Cosmetic – a blend of blueberries, calamine, and chamomile.

Honestly I nearly didn’t buy this mask for the sole reason that it has to stay in the fridge, and that is very, very far away from my bed.  Don’t judge!  But I ended up being very glad that I went for it (in spite of the massive inconvenience of walking fifty paces to the kitchen).

It smells great, as all Lush products seem to (except that one mask with garlic in it, probably… I’m sure it feels fantastic, but what’s the point if it doesn’t smell nice?), and it feels even better.  Because it comes straight out of the fridge it’s nice and cool, and it’s super smooth.  It washed off easily, and left my skin feeling totally smooth, clean, and gorgeous… exactly how it should be!

not really how I imagined my first selfie on the blog, but…

Of course on this particular occasion I was drinking a mimosa (left over from a baby shower on the weekend), so I can’t say it helped in terms of redness.  But that’s my own fault, now isn’t it?  And hey, it certainly helped in terms of feeling like a damn goddess!  I’m quite certain that whatever is going on with my skin can’t be fixed with an $8 face mask anyway.  The first time I used it I definitely noticed a temporary improvement, and when my face is feeling hot and irritated this mask is my new go-to.

You know those days where you’ve been running around for hours, eating junk food, probably putting on sunscreen or sweating or even just wearing foundation and you can feel it all on your face?

Yes.  This is for those days.

If you’ve tried this mask before, what did you think?  Have you tried any other face masks you liked – or made any yourself?  I’ve definitely done the ol’ yogurt/honey/banana before… tasted great, but felt too sticky.  Any others to recommend?

Happy tuesday, lovelies – see you tomorrow!
